With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our much loved and respected husband, father grandfather, and great-grandfather, William "Bill" Frohliger. He died at home surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Indianapolis to Herbert and Ada (Beckett) Frohliger. He served in the U.S. Navy and went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he played basketball. He later graduated from Butler University where he also played ball. Bill coached basketball and taught math at Cathedral Catholic High School in Indianapolis where he himself had graduated. He was most well known as the head basketball coach for Bloomington High School, later known as Bloomington High School South. In '71 he took his team to semi-state. One sports writer described him as "a mountain of a man." He also taught math, driver's ed. and coached men's golf during his career. Basketball was a big part of his life and his children were continually asked "Are you Coach Frohliger's son/daughter?" when meeting someone for the first time. After leaving Bloomington High School South, he became athletic director for Bloomington High School North. Even there, he stepped in as head basketball coach for one year. After retiring, he became president of the Monroe County Retired Teacher's Association. He served in the Bloomington West Lions Club. He helped build the new St. John's Catholic Church. His family and friends will deeply miss his humor, enthusiasm, wisdom, leadership, lovingness and wonderful story-telling. We'll also miss his beautiful singing voice. Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gertrude (Sullivan) Frohliger, his "angel", and by their eight children, Bill Frohliger, Jr. and Sharon Schaper of Melbourne, Florida, John and Cheryl (Wenrich) Frohliger of DePere, Wisconsin, Patty (Frohliger) Lawson-Buckley and Keith Buckley, Tom and Brenda (Ford ) Frohliger, Mary Frohliger and Debbie Lutes, Kathy (Frohliger) and Gene Kessler, all of Bloomington, Indiana, Jim Frohliger and Jim Henritz of Chicago, Illinois, and Peggy (Frohliger) and Asa Williams of Columbus, Indiana.
