Donald graduated from Michigan State University, where he studied Criminal Justice, and had a distinguished 30 year career with the Drug Enforcement Administration in the Department of Justice that took him and his family to posts both abroad and in the states. In retirement he continued to live a full life of travel, to American Battlefield sites, Hawaii, the California Wine Country, and many other locations both near and far. He returned to school to study Art and Musical History, he was an avid reader and collector of first edition books of fiction and poetry, he truly loved Jazz music, and could always be found cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting and scholastic events.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Rosemary Young; his son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Cristi Young; and his two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and John Pawlowski, and Rosemary and James Whitright; three granddaughters, two grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Emily, Zoe, Katherine, Brian, Steven, and Katie; his brother James Young, his niece Stacey, and nephew James.
Due to the public health concerns of corona virus, a private Rosary service and Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Seattle on March 19th, 2020 followed by a private burial service at Holy Rood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline, WA. Once this situation has passed and it is safe for family and friends to gather, a celebration of Donald’s life will be held (details to follow).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society for the treatment and eradication of pancreatic cancers or the American Battlefield Trust for the preservation of America’s battlegrounds.
