Jackie Gary

Jackie was born in Aberdeen, WA on the 23rd of August, 1941. She soon moved to Ballard where she lived with her father, Jack and Step Mother, Marcia. Jackie graduated from Ballard High School and then attended Washington University where she graduated with a BA and teaching credentials. Her first teaching job was at Morgan Jr. High in the Shoreline school district as an English teacher. She moved to Einstein Jr. High, which was a new school, in 1969 where she met her husband to be, Ben Gary. They were married on June 13th, 1970. She paused her teaching career when her son, Lee was born, and after he reached preschool age, she resumed her teaching career at Northshore Jr. High in the Northshore school district where she retired after 25 years of service. She was a very successful teacher popular with her students and held in high esteem by the administrators for whom she worked.

Jackie was successful in all aspects of her life. She was a beloved wife and devoted mother. She enjoyed traveling which included trips to Hawaii, Italy, and France as well as many cities throughout the USA. Going out to dinner was always a special event where she enjoyed steak, seafood, and italian cuisine. Socializing with her friends was one of her favorite pastimes. She spent several years after retirement volunteering for the Creative Retirement Institution of Edmonds College. She became an avid golfer and was a member of the Lynnwood Ladies Club. The highlight of many years was the annual trip to Palm Desert for the month of April where she enjoyed golfing with her husband and many nights of going out to dinner.

Jackie fought a brave battle against Dementia, Parkinson's Disease, and Neuropathy for over five years. She eventually had to move to a memory care facility. Towards the end, she was unable to walk and had difficulty communicating. However, she remained in good spirits until the very end.

Jackie was predeceased by her son Lee who passed away in July of 2023. She is survived by her husband Ben and grandson Dylan.
