Joe joined the Army at 17 and was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He also served at:
- Fort Gordon, Georgia
- Fort Smith, Arkansas
- Yuma, Arizona
- Fort Lewis, Washington
He married Edna Williams in 1957. He went to Auswald Accounting and Business School with his VA benefits.
Together they raised four children:
Debby Duble – Married to Eric Duble – Grandchildren Matt and Datha Joy
Doug and his wife Rachael – Granddaughter Tiffany
Datha Zingleman – Married to Craig Zingleman – Grandchildren Travis, Trent, and Tanner
Darren
And three treasured Great Grandchildren
Joe worked at Matterson Equipment, Yale Industrial Trucks and Pacific Utility Equipment as a parts manager.
Through his daughter and the mentoring of Nelson Malkus, Joe became a follower of Jesus. They became members of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, which later became Green Lake Presbyterian Church. He served as a Deacon there for many years.
Joe loved fishing and camping. The Montreal Canadian's Hockey Team and the Mariners were his favorites- win or lose! His hearty laugh broke out whenever he watched Bugs Bunny by himself or with the grandkids. He watched every season of M*A*S*H. He loved jazz music and had quite an extensive record collection- too many records, not enough time! He studied the Bible and wrote yearly journals and poetry. He spent months with a needle and yarn creating needlepoint masterpieces.
After retiring, he volunteered at The Columbia Nursing Home. They sold the house on 76th and moved to Lynwood. They became members of Shoreline Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed the weekly men’s Bible study and the friendships. Pastor Dan could always count on Joe’s LOUD Amen during his sermons!
When his health declined, they moved to Washington Oakes and then Brookdale for his care.
They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on December 28th, 2023. They honored their vows: “In sickness and in health.”
Joe had a strong faith and knew Heaven was his TRUE home!
