Joyce Carole Short, 82, passed away July 23, 2024. Joyce was born April 14, 1942 in Redondo Beach, California to Lester and Eleda Larson. The family moved to Mabton, Washington after the war. Joyce graduated from Grandview High School as valedictorian in 1960 and from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma in 1964. She married Thomas Short in 1967 and they moved to Woodinville in 1968, building their home on Hollywood Hill.
She had a long career as a Medical Technologist, with the majority of it spent in the Overlake Hospital lab until her retirement. Her faith was important to her, especially through many health challenges. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church of Bothell, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir in her younger years.
Joyce loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a fierce protector and a quiet cheerleader. She was a familiar sight with her cane or walker at music concerts and baseball and softball games. She loved working in her garden, reading, puzzles, and enjoying a sunny day. She and Tom took annual trips to Arizona after retirement to enjoy the sun, spend time with friends and family, and for Tom to ride their horses.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55+ years Tom Short, parents Lester and Eleda Larson, sister Joann Read, brother Norman Larson, and infant son Samuel Short. She is survived by her children Andrew (Mary) Short and Susan (Craig) Lemke, her grandchildren Ryan and Caitlin Short and Peter and Jacqueline Lemke, brothers and sisters-in-law Bill (Ruthie) Short, Pat (John) Veale, Doug (Judy) Short, Richard (Debbie) Short, and Terry (Travis) Wallace and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews and their families.
Burial will take place at Acacia Memorial Park at Noon on August 7th, followed by funeral services at First Lutheran Church of Bothell at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Evergreen Hospice, Homeward Pets, or First Lutheran Church of Bothell.
