A Life of Adventure
It is with great sadness that the family of Anthony Coffel announces his passing on May 22, 2021, at the age of 51.
In a word, Anthony was extraordinary. Even if you met him only once, you couldn’t possibly forget him.
An engaging raconteur with a zest for life, Anthony was loving, creative and quick-witted. He knew how to break the ice with anyone. He kept life interesting and entertaining for all who were lucky enough to know him. His circle of friends grew a little wider everywhere he went.
Anthony’s talents and interests were as numerous as his friends. He could build a car engine as easily as a friendship with a stranger. He could fix nearly anything from a bike to a broken heart.
Conversations with Anthony were always meaningful, memorable, full of laughter and never, ever filtered. He was as fearless with his words as he was on a hiking, biking or ski trail, where he always led the way.
Born in Washington D.C., Anthony spent his childhood on the east coast and northern California, before he followed his love of expansive spaces, mountain views and exceptional road biking to Boulder. He loved traveling, camping, sporting the latest outdoor gear and captaining pontoon boats in Grand County. Before his successful career in software development, Anthony followed his passion for the outdoors by working for the park service in Virginia and the YMCA in Colorado.
He was just 26 when he met his greatest love, his wife Kristen. Their time together as colleagues at South Run Recreation Center in Burke, Virginia was the beginning of an unbreakable bond between them. It built the foundation for their 26 year adventure together, which found them travelling near and far in search of new vistas, new foods and of course, more friends.
Anthony will be missed deeply by his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Kristen Coffel, his mother, Joan Bryan, his brother, Don Coffel, and his fur baby, Betty. Anthony was the ‘pied piper’ of dogs, and the second love of his life was with his black lab, Frisco, who passed away earlier this year and hiked Mount Sanitas with him no less than 1,000 times.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Chautauqua Community House in Boulder, Colorado on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Boulder Humane Society in Anthony’s name.
