Born March 2, 1928 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, died in Louisville, Colorado on Thursday, June 30, 2011. He was 83 years old. He was known to friends as “Tony”, though many of his family members still called him Anthony.
Tony was athletic and artistic. He enjoyed playing sports, he learned to sing opera at a young age, he loved classical music, and he was accomplished at freehand drawing.
Anthony was one of those individuals who worked for one company his entire career. He retired from Mountain Bell Telephone after the monopoly breakup in the mid 80s and resided in Boulder since. He began his career as a lineman in Boulder, transferred to Pueblo to become an installer, then to Sterling, and finally back to Boulder where he moved to the office. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Boulder Elks Club. Tony was a long time member of the Boulder Timberliners Barber Shop singing group. He had many friends in the Boulder area and he will be missed. He loved to hunt and fish, and he was an avid “tinkerer” who could devise many clever ways of fixing things in his shop. He loved baseball and went to every Little League, Pony League, and Legion game that his sons played in. Tony was a big Rockies fan. He relished going to Rockies games even if it meant going in a wheel chair, and he rarely missed a televised game.
His maternal aunt Lee is the only surviving close member of his birth family from Pittsburg. She lives in Springfield, Missouri. Anthony is survived by his four sons: Mark, age 56; David, age 54; Daniel, age 50; and Jeffery, age 49. He is also survived by 6 grand children: Jennifer, age 35; Gina, age 32; Angela, age 27; Jason, age 23; Brian, age 21; and Michael, age 19. He has 1 great grandchild, Kayden, age 3 months. All his surviving family was present at Balfour Hospice Center during his final days. It was an intense and memorable family experience! There was reverence and harmony through the entire duration. We are relieved that he is no longer suffering, and we are sad because we miss him dearly!
Anthony suffered from several maladies: CHF, diabetes, COPD, and was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2006. The final blow came from renal failure. He died peacefully at 10:15pm on Thursday, June 30.
Tony was a peaceful and happy man with a wonderful sense of humor which he employed up to the very end of his life. He could definitely surprise you! He loved women and he would flirt with many, especially his daughters-in-law. You may learn more about his life by visiting the Caring Bridge website:
