Antonio D. “Tony” Luchangco was born on November 25, 1946, in Shanghai, China, to his Filipino father, Guillermo E. Luchangco, an expatriate with Texaco, and his Chinese mother of Spanish citizenship, Kathleen Digmanese, who worked as an office secretary.
In 1949, the family evacuated from China to Manila on the second-to-last international ship to leave Shanghai. Tony and his older brother, Guilly, were enrolled at Manila American School, where they both graduated.
While “studying very hard,” as he liked to joke, Tony met the lovely Linda George, and they soon became soulmates. After graduating in 1965, he attended the University of the Philippines while also becoming a renowned professional Jai-Alai player. He and Linda were married on May 18, 1969, and began raising their children: Dennis, Charlie, and Vickie.
In 1975, Tony retired from Jai-Alai to begin a career at Merrill Lynch (Philippines), where he thrived and received numerous accolades. His achievements included memberships in the Merrill Lynch International Chairman’s Club, the Charles E. Merrill Circle, and the Society of Eagles. These honors brought him and Linda to conferences in destinations such as Acapulco, Rio de Janeiro, Interlaken, Sardinia, and on a Greek Islands cruise.
When the Merrill Lynch Manila office closed in 1990, Tony transferred to the Hong Kong office, where he enjoyed living and working for seven years. In 1994, Linda moved to their home in Colorado, where their children were attending college, and in 1997 Tony took early retirement and joined his family in the United States.
Tony cherished his new home in the mountains of Sunshine Canyon outside Boulder, Colorado, and quickly formed many deep and lasting friendships. He often said he felt truly welcome in his new home in the U.S.
In April 2018, Tony was diagnosed with leukemia. Through the dedicated care of the teams at Boulder Rocky Mountain and MD Anderson Cancer Centers, he was blessed with a remarkable seven-and-a-half-year extension of life. Tony passed away peacefully at home early on February 15th, 2026, surrounded by His Family.
Tony is survived by his wife, Linda Luchangco; his children, Dennis, Charlie (& Jessica and Sophie Luchangco), and Vickie (& Eduardo and Roque Antonio Gonzalez). He is also survived by his older brother, Guilly & Maloy Luchangco, their 5 children and families, and many beloved cousins and extended family members.
Tony leaves these words to his family, friends, and loved ones:
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
So when you think of me, please rejoice,
Listen quietly and hear my voice.
For I am flying high above,
Happy with the God I Love!
God bless you all, and God bless America!
Tony Sunshine’s memorial service will be announced at a later date and is planned for August 2026 in Sunshine Canyon, Boulder, Colorado.
