Gerardo R. Ramirez

Gerardo "G" Ramirez, 44, of Erie, Colo., passed away suddenly on July 5, 2013. Gerardo was born to Basilio and Gloria Ramirez in Salinas, Calif. He grew up in California and graduated from Salinas High School in 1986. He studied Computer Information Systems - Business Administration at Hartnell College. Gerardo worked for the Monterey Herald Newspaper in Monterey, Calif., for eight years prior to coming to the Boulder Daily Camera in 1998. He worked for the newspapers for a combined 23 years in the circulation and IT departments as a programmer and business systems administrator. G was one of the Camera's most valuable and trusted long-time employees. He made enormous contributions in the management of the advertising and circulation systems. He was well known throughout the company for his skill and knowledge. Many newspapers throughout the country sought his sage advice and support when dealing with programming problems of their own. G never said no. His heart was as big as the state of Colorado. G loved living in Colorado and enjoyed taking long scenic rides in the foothills; and with his passion for photography, rides were that much more enjoyable. He enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling and loved going to concerts, especially to see Madonna. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the LA Dodgers. He would always make it to two or three games against the Rockies every season, dressed in his Dodger blue, loving every minute of it. Then there was the bad '80s music he also loved and subjected his co-workers to - the "awesome '80s" in his words. Tech was in his blood, always getting the latest gadgets; he finally went to the "dark side" and purchased an iPad as well. G was the truest of friends. If you didn't know him, you missed out, if you did know him, you were blessed. He was an incredibly giving person and never asked for anything in return. He touched the hearts of everyone he came in contact with. Life, in all our hearts, and at the Daily Camera will never be the same without him. He is survived by his parents Basilio and Gloria Ramirez; brothers Eduardo Ramirez and Abelardo Ramirez; and his many friends and coworkers (whom he called family) at the Camera. Please join Gerardo's family in celebrating his life this Friday, July 12, 2013. A viewing will be held from noon-2 p.m. at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place in Boulder, followed by a service at 2 p.m.
