Kathryn "Kay" Rumelhagen

She was born on November 28, 1928 in Freeport, Illinois to Roy and Nota Longanecker. Kathryn graduated from East High School in 1946, and then attended and graduated from Rockford Business School.

Kathryn married Russell Rumelhagen on July 30th, 1955 in Rockford, Illinois. Kathryn was a homemaker to their four children, Michele, Rick, Lisa and Rohn. In August of 1966, Kathryn, Russell and their four children moved to Boulder, Colorado. After moving to Boulder, Russell and Kathryn purchased Table Mesa Florist. After they sold the business, Kathryn started her career as an Office Manager at Prudential Insurance until her retirement.

Kathryn loved her family very much. She was very excited when she learned that she would become a grandmother. Being a grandmother was one of the biggest joys of her life. She was also known as a great cook and baker. Her family and friends always looked forward to her treats. Kathryn was a life long Cubs fan, enjoyed watching and “coaching” the Nuggets, and lived her dream when she moved up to the mountains.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell, her parents Roy and Nota, her brother Bud Longanecker and her sister Juanita Youderain.

Kathryn is survived by her four children, Michele McCracken, Rick Rumelhagen, Lisa Cavazos and Rohn (Diana) Rumelhagen. They will all miss her very much. She is also survived by Eileen Gallagher who was considered by Kathryn to be a third daughter. Kathryn is also survived by her four grandchildren, Daniel Cavazos Jr., Nathan Cavazos, Russell Rumelhagen, Elizabeth Rumelhagen and by her great granddaughter, Gabby Cavazos. She survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Old Stone Congregational Church, 408 High Street in Lyons, CO. A reception will follow after the service at Rogers Hall. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor John Russ.
