Louis was born on April 17, 1938, to Louis James Liati Sr. and Catherine Lucy Toomey. He was their only child and was deeply cherished by his parents. From an early age, Louis developed a strong faith, a deep sense of responsibility, and a love for family that guided him throughout his life.
Louis was a savvy businessman who spent his entire life working in sales. Known for his sharp mind, strong work ethic, and natural ability to connect with people, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His integrity and professionalism defined his career and reflected the values he lived by every day.
In 1964, Louis met the love of his life, Diana “Dina” Leigh Roberts, while working together at Crown Zellerbach Products. About three years later, the two were married on July 15, 1967, in a small Catholic church in Palm Desert, California, beginning a lifelong marriage rooted in faith, love, and devotion.
Following his transfer to a plant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Louis relocated his growing family, where their first child, Arnold James Liati, was born on June 3, 1969. In 1970, the family relocated again to Edina, Minnesota, where they welcomed their second child, Laura Christine Liati, on November 22, 1971.
Lou loved to travel with his family having visited 90 countries. His favorite place to visit was Italy, but he has visited such places as China, Europe, Scotland, England, Iceland, Africa, and Tanzania. Lou and his wife did not just visit these countries, they lived in them. When they went traveling it was their plan to get to know the people and experience different cultures and live there for months, and that is what they did. They packed little traveler back packs and suit-cases to make movement easy leaving all their belonging behind. It was always a two week task to get their house closed to leave, ensuring that their pipes wouldn’t freeze, plants wouldn’t die, and the house wouldn’t burn down when they were gone.
After their children went off to college and began their own lives, Louis and Dina chose to move to Louisville, Colorado, where they built a home and spent the remainder of Louis’s life, surrounded by family, faith, and cherished memories.
Louis will be remembered for his devotion to Christ, his unwavering love for his family, and the kindness he showed to all who knew him. His greatest joy was being a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a proud grandfather.
Louis leaves behind his wife of 58 years; his children Arnie (Heather), Laura; grandchildren Harkin, Jack and Allie.
Lou was greeted in Heaven by his parents and a host of Liati family.
Private services are being planned and he will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Northern California in the “Liati” family plat.
