March 15, 1978 – August 21, 2025
Mahlon McDuff passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 47, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and deep connection. Born in Boulder, Colorado, on March 15, 1978, Mahlon was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life spirit, endless curiosity, and the unmistakable joy he brought to everyone around him.
Mahlon lived with boundless energy and an unwavering sense of adventure. From a young age, he had a deep love for the outdoors. He spent five formative summers at Cheley Colorado Camps, where his passion for adventure and connection with nature flourished. Fearless on a mountain bike and an expert downhill skier, Mahlon thrived in the wild and found joy in every outdoor pursuit. A cowboy at heart and an enthusiastic fly fisherman, he combined his love for nature with meticulous attention to detail, sharp wit, and relentless curiosity, always sharing his discoveries—whether rare finds or fascinating knowledge—with those he loved.
A graduate of Boulder High School, Mahlon earned a finance degree from the University of Puget Sound, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He worked as a wrangler at the Lazy L&B Ranch in Dubois, Wyoming, fully embracing his cowboy spirit while teaching and caring for others. Mahlon also nurtured a passion for craftsmanship, becoming a talented woodworker and creating pieces that reflected both his skill and his love for artistry. Ever the loving uncle, he was “borderline too much fun,” bringing laughter, adventure, and unforgettable memories to his niece and nephews. Whether surrounded by friends, working with his hands, teaching, or exploring the outdoors, Mahlon lived fully, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by his children, Emma McDuff and James McDuff, and his loving wife, Carsen McDuff. He is also survived by his parents, Pam and Doug Payne, and Patrick and Melinda McDuff; his sister, Laura Pojar, her husband Mark, and their children, Tate, Henry, and Paige; and his stepsister, Desmonne Bennett, her husband Brian, and their son, Coen. Mahlon will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his family and countless friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, 2:00 PM at Crist Mortuary in Boulder, Colorado. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor Mahlon’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Colorado Horse Rescue https://chr.org/general-donation/
