Matt's gentle spirit and wry wit were beloved by all who knew him. He was born in State College, Pennsylvania, and lived in Rapid City, South Dakota and Richland, Washington before moving with his family to Boulder, Colorado in 1992. Matt was an adventurous traveler who loved exploring the culture and natural history of Japan, Australia, England, Ireland, Hawaii, and Baja California. He was an avid fisherman, back-packer, snow-boarder, and naturalist. After graduating from Boulder High School and Colorado State University, Matt's true blessings in life came with his marriage to Yeni and the birth of their son, Jack. Their love and support after Matt was diagnosed with Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) and transverse myelitis boosted his spirits daily. Matt is survived by his parents, Maureen and Randy, Yeni, beloved son Jack, best friend and brother Duncan, Duncan's wife Megan, and nephew Connor. He also leaves behind his grandmother, many aunts, uncles, and cousins on both the west and east coasts, and many friends. A memorial was held August 13th, 2016 at Crist Mortuary in Boulder, Colorado. In lieu of flowers the family requests you consider a contribution to Charles Schwab - 529 College Fund (checks to Jack R. Arthur, PO Box 1746, Lyons, Colorado, 80540, referencing memo #719888648-01), or the LHON Project (www.LHON.org). Arrangements under the direction of Crist Mortuary, Boulder, CO.
