

Osamu Moriwaki passed away on Wednesday the 15th of July at his home in Erie, CO. at the age of 99 years old. Osamu was born in Los Angeles, CA. he was one of 8 children to Yagegusu and Sho Moriwaki. His family returned to Wakayama, Japan when he was 3 years of age. He returned back to the United States when he was 18 years old. In 1942 at the age of 21, he was sent to a World War II internment camp for Japanese Americans in Granada, CO. called Camp Amache, he was there for 3 years. After being released from camp in 1945, he made his residency in Boulder, CO. till 2016.
Osamu (Sam) worked at the Starlight Restaurant in Boulder, on Broadway, that his sister (Miyeko) and brother in law (Toby Ogata) owned. Sam also worked at Fred’s Steak House which was once on the Pearl Street Mall, there he was a cook for over 25 years. He then worked at the Boulder Country Club first in the kitchen and then in the locker room. Sam really liked working in the locker room, he enjoyed mingling and conversing with the members. He worked there till he was 95 years old.
He is survived by his wife Shigemi Moriwaki. He was an amazing and loving father to Mark Moriwaki, Donna Thede and Son-in-law, Tracy Thede. A wonderful, sweet, caring grandfather to his grandchildren Bronson, Kint and Takara Thede who loved him so very much.
On July 23rd, we celebrated his life with a wonderful Celebration of Life ceremony filled with family and friends. He brought so much joy and happiness to everyone he knew. We miss him Dearly.
