June 19, 1937- May 18, 2023
Pat Kadel was the devoted daughter of the late Walter Peter Nelson and Patricia Timberman. She was also predeceased by her brother James Nelson.
Pat grew up in Illinois, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Teaching from the University of Iowa. She met Jesse Kadel at her first teaching job in Denver, and they were married in Lombard, Illinois on April 17, 1960. She soon gave up teaching to raise Terri, and later moved to North Platte Nebraska where they had Kathy. They then moved back to Boulder, and have lived in the same house since 1967.
Pat was a creative soul, and enjoyed making Christmas decor, sewing dresses and clothes for her girls, and she always had a project brewing. She was a Girl Scout Leader, “Class Mom” and dedicated swim team volunteer, and she also taught children’s art classes at church. Later on, she loved to watch her grandchildren’s concerts, sports and swim meets. She was soft spoken and kind, and was a prolific reader, and she loved spending time with her family and friends. Pat and Jesse also enjoyed traveling to Denmark and Australia to visit Kathy’s family overseas, and they liked going to Branson, Missouri at Christmas Time.
But Pat’s true passion was her dogs. She was an accomplished dog trainer and instructor, and won several obedience titles through the years including OTCH and High in Trial awards, and she especially enjoyed her time training dogs with Terri. The family joke was that she liked her dogs better than her kids, so we hope that Frisky, Benjy, Schatzie, Scooter, Tally, Bingo, Tyler, Skyler, Zinger and Bentley will watch over her.
Pat was the proud mother of Terri Kadel and Kathy Kadel (Niels Brunsgaard). Her grandchildren are Thomas (Elise) Brunsgaard, Peter Brunsgaard (Joey Heilman) and Kristina Brunsgaard.
Pat Kadel passed away peacefully in Boulder, Colorado surrounded by her family. We are grateful to Boulder Community Hospital for their compassion and thoughtful care during her brief hospitalization.
