Raymond Arnold Rovey

Our father, Raymond Arnold Rovey, of Nederland, Colorado, left this world on November 6th at the age of 81. He passed peacefully in his sleep. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts. We would love you to come and honor his life at Nederland Community Presbyterian Church, 210 N. Jefferson Street, Nederland, CO 80466 on November 19th at 11 am. Reception to follow in the church hall.

He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on July 11, 1941 to parents Arnold and Dorothy Rovey, middle child with siblings Irma and Edward. He graduated from Peoria High School in 1959. He completed his education in airframe and powerplant mechanics from Northrup Aeronautical Institute in 19__. He married Ruth Brockhoff on May 31, 1968, and had 2 daughters, Elizabeth and Dianne. Ray went blind in 1975. He returned to work as an airline mechanic for Hughes Airwest. He worked for Republic, and Northwest before retiring in 1988. Dad learned to bowl, hunt, hike, ski, scuba dive and to golf. He started Out of Sight Art and Wrought Iron and enjoyed attending craft shows to sell his art. He got his first guide dog, Nicki, in 1988 and hiked the Grand Canyon for the second time, this time blind, in 1989. He and Ruth were divorced and he later moved to Nederland, Colorado. He lived there for 23 years. Ray joined the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church, the Nederland Area Seniors and could be found at the Pioneer Inn for beers on Friday nights. He was one of the first Frozen Dead Guy Days: Grandpa Bredo Look Alike. He enjoyed parades, senior lunches, hiking, and sharing stories with friends in Nederland and family by phone.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Arnold Rovey and his sister Irma. He is survived by his brother Ed and his wife Catherine, his ex-wife Ruth, his brother in law Bill, his daughters Dianne and Liz, and their families.

A memorial service for Raymond will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Nederland Presbyterian Church, 210 N. Jefferson Street, Nederland, Colorado 80466.
