

Regena (“Gail”) Smith of Boulder passed away on September 29, 2021 under the care of Covenant Living of Colorado in Westminster, Colorado. Gail was born May 12, 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Franklin (“Leon”) Ellis and Una V Shafer. She attended Piney Grove Baptist Church and graduated from Karns High School in Knoxville. Gail married Thomas Calvin Smith, also of Knoxville, on December 16, 1961. They later moved briefly to Lexington, Kentucky, where Tom worked for IBM, then settled in Gunbarrel, Colorado in 1974 when Tom was transferred to IBM’s Boulder facility. There they lived for over 40 years, raising two children, daughter Alicia and son Brian. Gail worked at Boulder Community Hospital for many years and enjoyed gardening, traveling, watching the Denver Broncos, and spending time with her children and dogs. Gail is survived by her sister Venetia Ellis, daughter Alicia Smith-Hoagland (Keith), grandchildren Zachary Meyer and Dylan, Paige, and Tyler Hoagland, nephew Greg Smith of Niwot, Colorado, niece Risa Heussner (Steve) of McKinney, Texas, niece Allison Murray (Jeff) of Barrington, Illinois, nephew Stephen Smith (Maeve) of Knoxville, Tennessee, nephew Tim Smith (Melissa) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and niece Marleah McGhee of Knoxville, Tennessee. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, Tom’s parents, brothers-in-law Leon and David, sister-in-law Louise, and son Brian. Gail’s family would like to thank the staff at Covenant Living of Colorado for their exceptional love and care for Gail for the past several years. A celebration of life will be held at Crist Mortuary in Boulder, Colorado on Friday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers,
