

Richard "Dick" L. Marchman, 66, of Lyons Colorado passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, after rescuing a stranded hiker in the Brainard Lake Recreational Area. Dick was born in Dunedin, FL to Frederick and Marguerite Marchman. After graduating valedictorian from Gulf High School in 1965, Dick attended the home of the Gators, University of Florida. Shortly after he entered the United States Air Force and served from 1967-1973. The majority of his service was spent at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver as a Technical Instructor. Dick started Astral Communications in 1977 with Bob McLaughlin and Bob Locher. Dick's main contribution was developing the technical work for two way radios and emergency phone systems in the Rocky Mountain canyons. His work showed his passion for providing valuable rescue resources for local authorities. Dick spent 50 years as a Ham Radio Operator (call sign KF0LA) and 25 years as an EMT with Allenspark and Indian Peaks FPD. He was liked by everyone in the emergency service field, as an outstanding volunteer firefighter and a friend. Dick is survived by his wife, Susan Harford Marchman; brother Fred (Gail Love) Marchman; daughter Nikki (Jeremy) Dean and her mother Heide Abbey; two grandsons, Connor Matthew and Logan Joshua Dean; and nephews Brian and Brent Marchman. Funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday July 17, 2014 at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Pl. Boulder. Interment to follow 12:15 pm at Ft. Logan National Cemetery Staging Area C, Denver, CO, In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dick's honor to any local volunteer Fire Department.
