Roger Allan DeKloe died suddenly surrounded by his immediate family on September 11, 2015. A resident of Lafayette, Colorado, he had lived for a long time in Colorado Springs and Boulder. Roger loved Colorado and everything about Colorado.
On October 5, 1942, John and Carol DeKloe announced the birth of their first son in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Roger had a happy childhood in Milwaukee and later kept in touch with the friends with whom he had played baseball, skated, and fished. In 1959 his parents moved him to California where he graduated from Reseda High School, Pierce College, and then San Fernando Valley State College (now California State University Northridge) where he majored in business with a specialty in accounting. After passing the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant, the accounting firm of Haskins and Sells hired him as an auditor in their Los Angeles office. Later, he transferred to their Colorado Springs office where he worked in the Holly Sugar Building downtown, and this brought him and his family to Colorado where he lived happily for the rest of his life.
On February 1, 1964he married his sweetheart Laura Alice Barnett and they had two children together (Tom and Kellie). The two children grew up in Colorado Springs and Boulder. After moving for a second time to Colorado Springs, Roger served as Executive Vice President for New Generation Homes. Roger retired in 2011to travel and fish. Upon retirement, Roger worked part-time by serving as a financial Consultant for Widefield Water and sanitation; this agency established an annual DeKloe Award to recognize outstanding performance by an employee.
For his entire life Roger loved to fish, ski, and play tennis. He played tennis regularly and was a member of the Harvest House tennis group. He loved the outdoors and his special passion was fly fishing, canoeing, and camping at Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. He will be remembered as a man of honor and integrity who had a fierce loyalty to family, a tremendous work ethic, and an infectious laugh. He will be missed, but everyone who knew him will cherish their memories of him.
