June 9, 1936 - May 19, 2012
Bud Sleek passed away on May 19, 2012 at his home in McGregor Lake, Montana.
The world was a better place with Bud Sleek in it. He lived well, loved deeply and gave generously to all who knew him.
Born on June 9, 1936 in Roaring Springs, PA, Bud grew up in Newburgh New York. He first picked up a fly rod in his teen years, and never put it down until the day he left this world on May 19, 2012. He could cast a fly into any body of water and pull out a fish. The cornerstone and foundation of his life was his authentic and deep connection with Jesus Christ, whom he devoted his life to at age 16. Bud shined the love of Christ through generous acts of kindness and service to many people and ministries throughout his life.
Bud married his high school sweetheart, Elaine, and was a devoted husband for 53 years. He was a faithful and loving father to his daughter Jennifer, and late son, Adam. He made it easy for them to recognize and place their trust in a loving heavenly Father. He also embraced his son-in-law Stein as his own son. Bud delighted in his grandchildren, Jordan, Christian and Devon, and prayed for them daily. He celebrated the joys and accomplishments and helped carry the burdens and challenges of each family member, and many dear friends as well.
He and Elaine created a beautiful summer home on McGregor Lake in Montana, where some of the best family memories were made swimming, waterskiing, tubing and of course, fishing in the crystal clear waters. It was in this home that Bud passed away, leaving a gaping hole in all of our lives. We are grateful for the touch of Bud’s life on each of ours, and look forward to the day when we see him again face to face.
Bud was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Mekeel, step-father Edward Mekeel, sister Louise Bontempo, and son Adam Sleek. He is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law, Stein, grandchildren Jordan, Christian and Devon, and brothers Ed and Hal Mekeel.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11:00 am at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mountain Christian Church. Please share thoughts, memories, and condolences with family at www.cristmortuary.com.
