After a long and loving life, Sue Shoaf of Firestone, Colorado, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday evening, May 20th, 2016, at the age of 87. Born Sue Chestnut in Frost, West Virginia, on July 23rd, 1928, she left West Virginia after graduating high school to work at the National Weather Bureau in Washington DC. There she met her husband to be, love of her life, John Shoaf, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. They were married in 1950 and moved to Boulder, Colorado in the early 1950's where Sue lived most of the rest of her life. She was a homemaker, a book keeper at Watts-Hardy Dairy and spent many years volunteering as the cook in the kitchen of First Baptist Church. Sue loved cooking and baked many cakes when she catered weddings and other celebrations. She and John travelled extensively visiting hundreds of National Parks in the US as well as many countries overseas.
Sue lived a loving and healthy life and succumbed to congestive heart failure after a brief illness. Sue is survived by her husband John, son Wayne Shoaf and his wife Melinda Hayes, daughter Alison Gortz and her husband Steve, and two grandchildren, Stephanie and Michael Gortz, and her siblings, Russell Chestnut and his wife Maria and her sister Nancy Edens.
