Allen served in the US Marine Corp from 1960 through 1964. After serving, he then had a fulfilling 40-year career as a truck driver. Allen was active in church functions at Trinity Methodist Church, Arcadia, and was often found reading, washing his truck, or spending time with his family.
Allen is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Gilmore, and three children, Janine Gilmore - Owens (Steve) of Sarasota, Florida; Allen Gilmore of Sarasota, Florida; and Mary Jo Spicer of Arcadia, Florida. His siblings, Jim Gilmore (Sandy) of Sarasota, Florida, Howard "Gil" Gilmore of Sarasota, Florida and Gloria "Gi" Humphries (Jim) of Sarasota, Florida. Allen also leaves behind four grandchildren, Kevin Crough, Aimee Kortzendorf, Austin Kortzendorf, and Aaron Spicer, to forever cherish his memory.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Erma Gilmore; and his brother and sister-in-law Dean and Margaret Gilmore.
A Celebration of life will be announced in the near future. Contributions in Allen's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
