

Affectionately known as Tony, he was born on April 18, 1931, in New York, NY, to Philip A. Litos and Eleni (Mingas) Litos. He spent his formative years in Fall River, Massachusetts, attending B.M.C. Durfee High School, graduating with the class of 1949. He furthered his education at Boston College, earning an undergraduate degree in economics in 1953.
Following his studies, Tony answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the army as a communication specialist with the US Army Signal Corps. On October 31, 1953, he married his home town sweetheart, Natalie (Canario) Litos, before embarking on a three-year tour of duty in Germany. There, he diligently worked on decrypting and interpreting radio transmissions across Eastern Europe.
Upon his honorable discharge, Tony returned to Massachusetts with Natalie and their first-born child, eventually settling in Raynham. He pursued a master's degree in social work from Boston College, marking the beginning of his lifelong commitment to helping others. Tony's career in social work with the state of Massachusetts spanned decades, during which he tirelessly advocated for and served those in need through various departments and agencies.
Tony's legacy in the field of special needs adults is profound. He spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives, including a shift from institutional-based care to community-focused support systems. His unwavering dedication and passion led to tangible change and improved the lives of countless individuals.
In 1995, Tony and Natalie relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida, and later settled in Bradenton in 2013. Besides his professional pursuits, Tony found joy in sailing, camping, reading, and cheering for his beloved BC Eagles and Boston Bruins.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Philip A. Litos and Eleni (Mingas) Litos, his brother John Litos, and his son Eric J. Litos. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Natalie, his sister Katie Caramos, his four children, Philip A. Litos, Mark A. Litos, David J. Litos, and Elda E. (Litos) Olson, along with their spouses. Tony leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, cherished by fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A funeral service honoring Tony's life will be held at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Manasota Memorial Park in Bradenton. The date is set for Wednesday, March 27, 2024. See service times below for more detailed information.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to organizations close to Tony's heart, such as the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Holy Cross Retreat House in North Easton, Massachusetts.
