Jim Morgan 91, of Bradenton Florida passed away Sunday morning, October 31st at Blake Medical Center.
Mr. Morgan was born June 4, 1930 in Sharon, PA, the son of the late Hubert L. and Florence (Walker) Morgan. He was raised in Masury, OH and was a 1948 graduate of Brookfield High School.
After high school Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the occupation force in Germany after WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1951.
His wife of 65 years, the former Thelma Knotts, whom he married September 26, 1956, survives at their Florida home.
Following their marriage, Jim and his wife, Thelma, relocated to Overland Park, Kansas where they raised their three children. He was first employed by General American Transportation Corporation (GATX). After leaving that job in 1964, he went on to start his career with Trans World Airlines (TWA) where he was a Mechanic and Avionics Crew Chief. He loved working for the Airlines.
After retiring in 1990 he became a volunteer Bus Driver for 10 years for Maranatha Academy in Shawnee, KS where three of his grandchildren attended.
Jim was a member of Full Faith Church of Love, Shawnee until he recently moved to Bradenton in 2020.
Jim was a member and Treasurer of the Kansas City Amateur Radio Club for nearly 40 years. He was a Ham Radio Operator.
He was also a member of the Plymouth Car Club for 50 years. He enjoyed buying and restoring Antique Cars and going to Antique Car Shows. He and his wife went on many travels with the club.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two sons, David Morgan (Marla), Jacksonville, FL; Rick Morgan (Royce) Overland Park, KS; and daughter, Lisa Burge and John McKee who was like a son to him. Lisa and John were his caregivers; sister-in-law, Betty Lou; grandchildren, Malorie, Jon, Josh and Jen (Brandon); and many niece and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother Robert (Bob) L. Morgan of Sharon, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on November 17th at Paradise Bay Estates Recreation Hall, 10315 Cortez Rd W, Bradenton. The visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm and the service will begin at 2 pm. He will be laid to rest on November 18th at 10 am at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota.
