Peggy was born to parents Genevieve (Jenny) and Charles (Chuck) Adelsperger on October 13, 1926 in Homestead, PA. She grew up an only child and graduated from Homestead High School, then married her high school sweetheart, E. Howard West in 1945.
Peggy was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose zest for life and enthusiasm was contagious. A co-pilot in life and in practice, Peggy loved flying around North America in their private planes beginning in 1957 (the family had an airplane before they had a second car). As a team, she and Howard loved flying as well as boating, having navigated the Gulf of Mexico and explored the inter-coastal waterway from Florida to North Carolina. Peggy loved life and lived for her family. The consummate homemaker, Peggy also enjoyed daily swimming and gardening.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 74 years E. Howard West, and her daughters, Karen West (Robert Sabia) of Sarasota, Florida and Susan West (Dave) Engelkemeyer of Hull, Massachusetts. She is also survived by four grandchildren, and seven great children, including grandchildren Brad Nelson (Angelika Summerton) of Fredonia, NY, Keith (Ann) Nelson of Chandler, AZ, Kristen Engelkemeyer (Brad) Chalifoux of Hull, MA, and Jason (Erin) Engelkemeyer of Marshfield, MA. Great grandchildren include Michaela Nelson, Savannah Nelson, Ashley Nelson, Grace Engelkemeyer, JJ Engelkemeyer, Liam Chalifoux and Adalyn Chalifoux.
A celebration of life is planned at a later date with family when her cremated remains will be buried in her beloved Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The family declines flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Philanthropy Department, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida 34238.
