Dr. Omar Guevara was a loving father and devoted husband. His rare combination of discipline, intelligence, humility, and compassion made him an inspiring physician. Omar met all of life’s challenges with an open heart, a brilliant mind, and an unfailing sense of humor. At various times in his life Omar had the honor of identifying as an immigrant, mountaineer, cardiologist, rotarian, soldier, father, grandfather, and world traveler. Omar wore all of these roles with pride. Omar’s passion for knowledge, his insatiable curiosity, and his courage, are priceless gifts he has generously passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Omar was grateful for the opportunities provided to him as a citizen of the United States and was proud to serve as a Captain in the United States Army. He understood that his military service provided him the opportunity to hone the skills he needed to excel in medicine and consequently to provide excellent medical care to countless thousands of patients throughout his career.
Among his other identities Omar also undertook leadership of Annapolis Hospital (Wayne Michigan) as Chief of Staff, and President of the Dearborn, Michigan Chapter of Rotary International. Omar found great joy in the work of Rotary and passionately believed in Rotary’s mission of service, integrity, and understanding. Omar continued his commitment to Rotary upon relocation to Bradenton, Florida and is presently listed as a member of the Bradenton chapter.
Omar is survived by his devoted wife Maureen (Adams) Guevara, sons Luis Bernardo Guevara, Alex Jose Guevara, Omar George Guevara (Veronica Baretto), daughter Ana Guevara (Dan Walzl), and his identical twin brother Walter Guevara.
