Robert lived a life defined by service, dedication, and quiet strength. In July 1957, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country honorably until his discharge in 1960. His commitment to the nation did not end there; later in life, he answered the call to serve once more by joining the United States Navy. Over the course of his distinguished military career, Robert dedicated more than 20 years of service to the United States Armed Forces before retiring.
Following his military service, Robert continued to protect and serve his community as a police officer, carrying forward his lifelong commitment to duty and integrity.
Beyond his professional life, Robert was deeply proud of his involvement in Freemasonry. Joining in the early 1980s, he remained an active and devoted member, eventually becoming a Scottish Rite Mason. His participation reflected his strong values, fellowship, and dedication to personal growth and community.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lydia M. Paton, and his cherished daughter, Hope Gibbons. He was a devoted husband and father whose love and guidance will be deeply missed.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Manasota Memorial Park. Placement of his ashes will take place privately at Sarasota National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the DAV (Disabled American Vets).
Robert’s legacy of service, honor, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
