Jon was born in Dover and raised in Mine Hill, New Jersey by the late John and Agnes (Smith) Bugan. Shortly after graduating high school, Jon proudly served his country in the US Army from 1969 until 1975, demonstrating commendable bravery during his time in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star Medal. Following his distinguished military career, Jon worked at Picatinny Arsenal for several years before joining the National Parks Service as an auto mechanic at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, retiring in 2011 after 22 dedicated years.
Jon shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife of 54 years, Betty, whom he married on July 12, 1971. In 1987, they bought their first home on Culver Lake and continued to raise their daughters within a beautiful lake community surrounded by nature. Jon was so proud of being able to provide for his family and share his love of being on the water with them. Jon was well known to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends and his dedication to his friendships is a true testament of the power of love.
Their 54-year marriage was marked by love and dedication. In addition to being a devoted husband, Jon cherished his role as a grandparent and was passionate about spending time with his grandchildren. A man of varied interests, Jon was an avid fisherman who particularly enjoyed the serenity of fishing on Culver Lake.
Jon leaves fond memories to his beloved wife, Betty Bugan; his daughter, Tracy Ulrich and her husband Paul; his granddaughters, Cassidy and Alana Ulrich; his grandson, Zachary Breitfelder; and his siblings, Agnes Bugan, Lance Bugan, and Michael Bugan.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Tina Breitfelder; and his siblings Stephen Bugan, Philip Bugan, and Terry Teague. A celebration of Jon’s life will be held at a later date.
