Joseph Thomas Barrett, Jr.

Theresa Ann “Terry” Morere was born February 18, 1942 in Paterson, NJ.

After meeting in Seaside Heights at the Jersey Shore, they exchanged nuptials in 1968. Soon thereafter, they built a home in Frankford Township in the north woods of Sussex County, NJ where they raised three children - Joseph (Natasha) of Tulsa, OK, Christine (Craig) of Wilmington, NC and Kelly (Shayne) of Newton, NJ.

Joe and Terry are the proud grandparents to 8 - each of whom hold a special place in their hearts: Isabella (24), Chloe (22), Eva-Maria (19), Hailey (18) Gabrielle (16), Kayden (16), Isaiah (10) and Evelina (7). In addition to his children and grandchildren, Joe is survived by numerous family members and friends who will forever remember his kindness and gentle spirit.

Terry is a former President of the Parent Teacher Association (“PTA”) at the Frankford Township School where she worked mostly as an Aide with autistic children where they aptly created Terry Barrett Way.

Joe spent decades commuting from “the sticks” for his work as a Carpenter with Local 620 in Madison, NJ. After retiring, Joe embraced the simple joys of life, finding peace in the moments that mattered most. He often took his family to the Jersey Shore and had a deep affection for pizza from AG’s in Branchville, NJ and Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn in Wilmington, NC. He enjoyed nature - frequently leaving food out for wildlife.

Joe and Terry loved spending summers in Florida, often stopping to visit family along the way.

In 2019, Terry and Joe relocated to Arizona where she struggled with Alzheimer’s disease. On Easter Sunday 2020, Terry succumbed to pneumonia with Joe as her roommate in a private care home in Scottsdale, AZ.

After suffering a broken heart, Joe remained in the desert until he joined his beloved on February 10, 2025 following a valiant battle with congestive heart failure and terminal dementia.

Those who knew them, will remember their deep love of family and they are greatly missed.

A visitation for Joe will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville, NJ 07826 - immediately followed by an afternoon Celebration of Life for both Joe and Terry at the Branchville Firehouse catered by AG’s.

A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Monday, February 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, 209 US-206, Branchville, NJ 07826 - followed by interment of Joe and Terry at the Branchville Cemetery.
