Roy spent 4 1/2 years in the Navy after graduating from Newton High School. He then spent over 35 years as a trucker, traveling through almost every state at some point during his long career. He had so many memories and stories to tell of his many adventures "over the road".
Roy was a past chief and member of the Branchville Fire Department, a member of the American Legion (both Branchville and Lady of the Lake), a member of the Florida State Horseshoe Pitching Association, and a Teamster Union Member.
Roy loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter until just a few short years ago; loved camping, and going to dirt track and Nascar races. He also enjoyed bowling and was on many leagues in his younger years. Roy also always looked forward to playing Bingo every Wednesday and Sunday with his good friends from Lady Lake. His greatest love, however, other than his family, was pitching horseshoes. Roy pitched horseshoes competitively for over 25 years, meeting some great friends along the way. He competed at both the state and world tournament levels, conquering many state titles. His many plaques, trophies, and patches are proof of the talent he had and the love he had for the sport.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home,16 Main Street, Branchville, NJ. A fireman's service will take place at 12:45 p.m. and funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Branchville Cemetery in Frankford Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made in his name to Community Hospice and Palliative Care of Nassau County, 1901 Island Walkway, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034. A special thank you to the great care that Roy received from this amazing group of people: especially Nurse Jody.
