Barbara Ann Melzer

Barbara Ann Melzer, PT, PhD, DPT, FAPTA, was born January 7, 1950 in Canby, MN, the daughter of Simon and Loa Melzer. At the time of her passing Dr. Melzer was a Professor of Physical Therapy at Texas State University. She was well known locally, nationally and internationally as a consummate professional whose compassion, dedication, and commitment to excellence endeared her to students, colleagues, and leaders in her chosen profession of physical therapy. She has been recognized nationally and in Texas for her expertise and innumerable contributions to physical therapy accreditation and clinical education and her leadership in the professional association. Dr. Melzer is survived by her life partner of 36 years, Kathryn Safford, MD, of San Antonio, TX; her sister, Beatrice of Minneapolis, MN; her international exchange student sister, Mariu Carrera; aunts Freida Resser and Dorothy Melzer; and cousins Steve Melzer, Betty Moore, Martha Melzer Savage, Rae Carol Moe, Kendall Reeser, Ron Reeser, Michael Reeser, Steve Reeeser and Kathy Peterson. Dr. Melzer was preceded in death by her infant brother and her parents.
