Cecilia Aguilar Nickle was born September 13, 1928 in San Mateo, California to Joseph Aguilar and Francisca Dominguez. She was the youngest of four girls and the eleventh born of fourteen children. Cecilia was baptized on September 21, 1929 at St. Leo The Great Church in San Jose, California – just after her 1st birthday.
At an early age, Cecilia and her siblings were very active in sports. Cecilia was a great athlete and the starting pitcher on the baseball team. Her love for baseball continued throughout her life. She was a faithful San Francisco Giants fan – attending many games throughout the years; her last being in 2012. She passed this love for the game and team on to her own children and grandchildren.
Cecilia married Ray Thayles Nickle in the state of Nevada on October 4, 1952. Cecilia and Ray had six children together during their union, which has resulted in fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren to date.
With her incredible smile and caring touch, it made perfect sense that Cecilia would choose a profession in the medical field. She worked as a Nurses’ Technical for close to 25 years. She retired from Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City in 1990 to care for her first born, Donna Nay, who had become ill with cancer.
Cecilia is famous for her homemade tortillas, enchiladas and apricot turnovers. Luckily, she passed these recipes down to some of her grandchildren; although, none of us will ever get them quite as perfect and as tasty as hers. Her hands were seasoned with a special kind of love, and only she possessed the special spice.
In addition to cooking for her family, Cecilia cherished and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cared for her eldest grandchildren as if they were her own, and no baby within her grasp had a chance to escape her warm hugs and tender kisses.
Cecilia departed this life on September 1, 2014, which was also Labor Day. She was proceeded in death by her son Adam (1966), her daughter Donna (1990), her mother Francisca and father Joseph; brothers Albert(1), Tony, Jackie, Ray, Albert(2), Bobby, Joey, Tommy, Danny, and sisters Angela and Helen. She leaves to cherish her precious memory daughters Julie, Dani, Carolyn, and son Donald; grandchildren Rachel, Andrea, Monty, Adam, Joshua, Jennifer, Nicole, Jessica, Myles, Michael, Mathias, Donna, Kayla and Hayden; great-grandchildren Taylor, Demont, Shaelee, McKlain, McKoy, Adam, Jeffrey, Daniel and Brandon; Brother Frankie and Sister Josephine, and a host of loved ones near and far.
