Our company has been an IT provider to McGraw Group/Pacific Specialty for over 20 years and I was fortunate to have worked closely with Gerry on many projects.  When I first met him it didn't take long to realize he was indispensable to McGraw's operations, and it's an understatement to say he played a critical role in developing the technical framework that helped pave the way for McGraw's growth and success.  

Over the years I got to know Gerry's fun-loving side which he regularly injected into our conference calls and planning meetings.  He was never too busy to help me when I needed something for a project we were working on  always patient and kind despite the huge demands on his time.  But the thing that stood out to me was how talented he was.  The world of IT is full of brilliant people but none in my experience that have the range and depth of skills that Gerry had  programming, hardware, applications, operations, Web services, networking, communications, security  he did it all and he did it incredibly well.

I had a chance to spend some time with Rizza and other family members last week and learned about his love of singing and playing the guitar, barbequing, cooking, maintaining several large aquariums, keeping up with six dogs, not to mention three kids.  As so many people have posted his family meant everything to him.  The story about how he dropped everything and left his life in the Netherlands behind to start a new life here with Rizza is one of the sweetest things I've ever heard.  You may be out of our sight, Gerry, but not out of our hearts or minds.

Dear uncle Gerry,
You left the Netherlands about 25 years ago, because you met the love of your life, auntie Rizza. You had a wonderful life with Auntie Rizza and the kids, Josh, Gabe and Abbigail. Although we we're miles apart you were often in our Minds. 
We wish everyone a lot of strength.  Auntie Rizza, Joshua, Gabriel and Abigail we think of you

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that was touched by Gerry. It did not matter if you spoke with him in person or o er the phone you were touched.

I worked with Gerry at the McGraw Group for 2 1/2 years. I really appreciated his expertise, hard work and willingness to help...even when the problem was really and "operator error". He will definitely be missed. I'll be praying for his family.....

My husband and I met Gerry through Rizza. ( She's been our friends since the early 80's). We had a get to gether a few years ago and Gerry made us feel at home. He has a great sense of humor and one of the nicest person you will ever meet... and boy he could sing. My only regret is that we didn't spend more time with him. Reading all the messages,  I know he was (is) loved by many.We lost a great man and will be surely missed.

I still can't believe what had happend. I'm so glad that i saw you last of May. We had a great time and you asked me when i was come tot visit you. For the past 20 years, I've had the privilege of knowing and working with Gerry.  Without a doubt, he was one of the smartest and most caring individuals I've ever known.  He had a tireless enthusiasm for work and family, and always pursued excellence in everything he did.

The two things that I most fondly remember about Gerry  both of which speak to the core of his character  are how passionate he was about his family, and the kindness and generosity of spirit he showed my son, Nicholas.

I was inspired by how Gerry not only spoke about his family, but how he spoke to them.  I would occasionally walk in and briefly overhear tiny snippets of these conversations (usually with his wife, Rizza), and he always displayed such gentleness and concern.  And in my own conversations with Gerry, it was evident just how much he loved them.  And how proud he was of all of his kids. 

Regarding my son, until recently, Nick had worked about one day a week in the office over the course of the last few years  usually in the same room as Gerry's office.  Gerry was not only patient in helping Nick with any questions he might have about a specific task, but he would often turn them into a teaching moment (everything from how computer systems work and interact together to how exciting a career in technology can be).  When Nicholas was thinking about pursing a programming career, Gerry was right there as well.  I will never forget any of that.  I will never forget his genuine kindness.  Neither will Nick.

To Rizza & family  I honestly don't know what to write.  I'm so sorry.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  If I can ever be of any help or assistance please let me know.

I've been struggling to appropriately convey in words how sorely you will be missed my friend.  Words cannot express my heartfelt sorry for Rizza, the boys and Abbigail.

Gerry was a huge part of the success in all of our operations over the years and I will miss him.  

He was incredibly willing to share his knowledge and time with anyone.  If you were on the phone with Gerry, or in person you could rest assure that inevitably someone else would come by or call Gerry seeking help from him.  It was a constant in the office and everyone competed for Gerry's time and because he was so willing to accommodate everyone, he would be the first one in and last one out in order to get all of his own work done.   He was so kind hearted and generous with me and I am better in my role for knowing him. Gerry has left an indelible mark.

I have so many fond memories in working with Gerry over the past decade.  From arguing over design, and development to laughing about the rock music played in Gerry's office.  Gerry could figure out how to create or develop anything and once you got the creative juices flowing about the requirement, he became relentless until he figured it out. 

Gerry was deeply devoted to his family and bragged about his wife and kids constantly.  I recall Gerry saying Rizza was a firecracker and how he fell in love the first moment his eyes laid on his wife and how lucky he was.  

I am so sorry we lost Gerry and my deepest sympathies go out to Rizza; his eldest son, Joshua; his youngest son, Gabriel; his daughter, Abbigail.

We are glad, we saw Gerry last May, when he and Rizza were over to celebrate their weddinganiversary.
The next day they invited us for dinner. We had a nice time, not realising of course that this would be the last.
we remember Gerry as a very nice and friendly person and we wish Rizza, Gaby, Joshua and Abigail lots of strength to overcome this terrible loss.

When I first met started at McGraw, I was warned not to discuss keeping aquariums with Gerry as it would surely result in the loss of many hours of work in detailed conversation. As time moved on, I found this to be true of anything that Gerry was passionate about. We had a lot in common, so there was a lot of conversation. Over those conversations, we started to become friends. 
When the complexion of my position at McGraw changed, he stepped in to mentor me. His tutelage was invaluable; bringing me from not knowing ANYTHING about the technical aspects of my new job to knowing enough to get by and build on. For that I will be eternally grateful. 
Last Friday I heard his Harley clock rumbling through our shared wall and it occurred to me that his seat was almost smack dab in the middle of the office; in the heart, as it were. This is very fitting in my mind as he was the proverbial heart of so much that went on here. Given how much he loved his wife's cooking, he may also have been the stomach but that's something for another time. 
My deepest and most sincere condolences to his family and friends, colleagues and peers. The world lost a very good man last week.

I have known Gerry for  five years working for the McGraw Group. I am one of the few that came to work early at 6:30a. Almost every single morning, we would run into each other in the break room for coffee.  We would chit chat about his loves for riding his Harley. We share common interests in sports car. We talks about family. Gerry is the most down to earth and most likable co-worker, a friend, that anyone could ask for. He was the heart and should of the IT Dept and always willing to assist with a smile.

I am going to miss you my brother. May God gives your loving family the strength to go through these difficulty time.

I am so sorry and sad to hear about Gerry's demise.

I have had lots of opportunities to talk and work with Gerry for past 20+ years. He was the go to guy for any and all computer problems/issues. He was very hard working and helpful. We always called him for all small/big AS400 issues and he was always ready to assist no matter what time of the day even when we worked on Saturdays. He was always there for us and would ask how my family was doing and talk about his family.
You will be missed greatly by all us.
I am sure you are shaking up things up there.
It's a very hard time for the family and my prayers and condolences are with you. I had lost my in-laws last year, 6 months apart and I came across this poem that helped me cope with pain and sadness and hope it helps you during this very difficult time.

How sad to hear of the passing of a good friend. He was a happy man and a good friend.

December 2013 I got flat tire. I was waiting a tow truck in the parking lot and I saw Gerry closing the office front door. He came out. He did not leave me until the tow truck came.

I will miss when you call me "ading" (younger sister). Goodbye kuyang... rest in peace.

I admired as you are self-taught, smart and hard-working but I love you as a person who is very family dedicated, out spoken and helpful. I will not have a chance to spoke to you, asking how Abbigail is doing but you are always remembered

I'm sorry to hear about Gerry. 
I worked with him a little over 10 years. Very nice person who always spoke about his family with a big smile on his face. He was very sweet and kind. I will always remember that about him. My prayers go out to his family and friend.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Gerry.  

I worked with Gerry for over 13 years...he being one of the first I met when I started working at the company and one of the last I saw when I left the company just over a year ago.  He brought such life and humor with him!  And was so passionate about what he did.  And was talented and brilliant at it.  The only thing he was more passionate about was his family.  I never met his wife and I only met his boys briefly once.  But I feel like I know them all because he talked about them all the time.  I have a son in between the ages of his two boys...we talked about them all a lot.  And his daughter was an inspiration to him.  He often shared his stories of her...he was definitely her protector!  Gerry shared the story of how he and his wife met and fell in love from the start.  Such a story.  This world lost a great man...husband, father and friend...last week.  I am so glad I knew him and was able to share so many years with him.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family at this very difficult time.
