passed into our Lord’s arms on April 25, 2013.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday May 28, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the
Brentwood Funeral Home in Brentwood, California.
Helen was born January 3, 1924, in Faust, New York. Surrounded by the beautiful
Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Her family grew up in Tupper Lake.
She was raised a Roman Catholic, attended local schools and graduated
salutatorian from Holy Ghost Academy in 1941. She attended St. Thomas
University, a small college in Chatham, NB, Canada for a year and a half.
In the midst of WWII, the summer of ’43, she and her late sister Rita moved to
Rome, NY. There they found jobs at Rome Cable Corporation working on cables
and leads for airplanes. She was truly a “Rosie the Riveter”.
In December of ’43 she met her husband-to-be, T.Sgt. William P. Mastraccio.
He was home on leave for the holidays. It was “love at first sight” and
before he returned to his station in Newfoundland, they had become engaged.
They were married on September 18, 1944, his next leave. It was a whirlwind
courtship and their marriage lasted a lifetime.
Helen and Bill loved to travel and visited many of the worlds “Wonders”. She was an
avid mystery reader and was also fond of music. Helen’s interests were many and she always did her best at any given challenge. She was an excellent bridge player, an outstanding cook and could knit almost anything. Helen was an intelligent woman and
lived a long happy, healthy life.
She leaves behind her four children:
Karen Phillips, of Johns Creek, GA, William L. Mastraccio, of San Antonio, TX,
Michael A. Mastraccio, of Tulsa, OK, and Marianne Tate of Antioch, CA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of the givers choice.
