Marcella Herzig April 9, 1921 - June 16, 2011 Resident of Alamo Marcella Herzig passed away peacefully following a brief illness. Marcella was born in Des Moines, IA as a second child in a family with three brothers. As a young girl, the family relocated to Fremont, CA. She served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII; working in the tower at the Livermore Air Station. She later accomplished her dream of becoming a pilot. In 1956, she married Andrew Herzig. She gave birth to their son, Franklin Herzig, in 1959. She then followed her next dream and began working in a special education classroom in Alamo. She loved working with each student, who loved seeing "Cella"; and made lifelong friends with many of her peers. She enjoyed her work so much that she continued working until she was 80. Marcella and her coworkers eventually formed a knitting group called the "Knit-Wits". These meetings were a highlight of Marcella's social life. Frank married his wife Kristi in 1999, and Marcella's family grew larger. Kristi's two sons each are married with two children. Marcella was once again lovingly referred to as "Cella" by her four great-grandchildren; whom she loved to visit with. Marcella is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Kristi of Discovery Bay; grandchildren Tak and Kyle of Discovery Bay and Livermore; great-grandchildren Scott, Alexis, Maya, and Brandon; and seven nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend services on Monday, June 20th at 2:00pm at Brentwood Funeral Home 839 First St in Brentwood.
Arrangements under the direction of Brentwood Funeral Home, Brentwood, CA.
