On February 18, 2015, Chele departed this life peacefully at home following a prolonged and valiant fight against cancer. She was the beloved wife of Gary, much loved stepmother of Noel Newman, treasured grandmother of Kira and Hali Newman, and devoted daughter of Helen and the late Mitch Stewart. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law, Margaret (Forcade) Warren, and many, many friends in the Bay Area and the Delta. She also leaves behind her loyal dog, Gypsy. Chele was a long-time resident of Discovery Bay and an active member of the Discovery Bay Yacht Club, leading many successful cruises. She was active in the Tower Park Yacht Club, serving as Commodore in 1999, and was a member of the Order of the Blue Gavel. Chele was particularly proud of her years (1990’s) as the skipper of Sea Scout and Mariner Ship Morning Star and treasured her relationships with Ship members and all of the young women she mentored. A woman of many talents and interests, she swam competitively in high school, was a drum majorette, won glee club awards, loved line dancing and country-western music. One of her greatest joys was the time she spent with her (step) daughter, Noel, and being grandma to Kira and Hali. She had a wicked and mischievous sense of humor, teaching her granddaughters how to stick silver spoons on the ends of their noses, the importance of gemstones, and how to correctly tie the right knots. Chele was known for giving of herself to help and support others – she always seemed to know just what help was needed. She left this world better for having been here. Chele’s warm smile, generous spirit, caring ways, and the echo of her laughter will be dearly missed. She will remain forever in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
