Patricia Ann “Patti” Small died peacefully in her home on February 25, 2019 – surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Patti, the daughter of the late Frank Lindland and Dorothy Letts, was born on July 13, 1942 in San Francisco. She spent her childhood in the City with her younger siblings, Jim Lindland, Diane Zarate and the late Mike Lindland.
Patti graduated from Star of the Sea Academy and attended City College of San Francisco. She married Arnold Calhoun and they had two children, Michael and Laurie. She had a second loving marriage to Robert Small and her life of travel and adventure began. After an early career working in corporate life in San Jose, Patti and Bob moved to Chicago and Texas. In Texas, Patti became a successful real estate agent, known as a wonderful hostess and “people-person” in her community. During a brief return to California, Patti pursued her love of travel and became a travel agent – a career she thrived in for over 20 years.
After Bob’s early retirement, they moved to Jacksonville, Florida and immersed themselves in their adopted community. They loved spending time boating with friends and Patti generously provided many volunteer hours supporting the Jacksonville Sail and Power Squadron. She served several years as Committee Chairperson for event planning at the local, district and National Event Planning Committees. Patti was a fun-loving, wonderful planner whose efforts produced several successful events. Her warm, outgoing spirit was appreciated by all who knew her.
Patti and Bob returned to California to be closer to family and Patti was actively involved in their local retirement community in Brentwood. Again, she volunteered to help with events and created a new community of friends. Patti’s passion for travel took her around the globe and she especially loved spending time in Cancun, Mexico. Her last trip was a trans-Atlantic cruise with her good friend, Pat Chamberlain.
Patti is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Lindland and Dorothy and Bill Letts; her beloved husband of 40 years, Robert Small; and her brother, Michael Lindland. She is survived by her children, Michael (Karinn) and Laurie Calhoun; her step-children Cay, Tom, Tim and Michael Small; her grandchildren, Kaila Sarro (Michael), Molli and Kamerin Calhoun, Kylie and Michael Evangelho; and Desiree, Kaleigh, James, Alex and Jackie Small; great-grandchildren Myla Sarro and Sofia Montana; her siblings Jim Lindland (Claudia) and Diane Zarate (Reuben) and loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear companion, Dick Bierch.
A memorial service will be held at Brentwood Funeral Home, 839 First Street, Brentwood CA at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019, followed by a private celebration of her life. There will be a future private burial.
