

David Warren “Champ” Champion Sr., age 83, of Brentwood, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. David was born to the late Glenn R. Champion and Edith M. Warren Champion on November 1, 1939 in Tampa, Florida.
David graduated from Jesuit High School in 1957 and then continued his education, receiving his Bachelors in Advertising from the University of Florida in 1962. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. He married Mary Esther Valido on June 19, 1965 in Tampa, Florida. He worked as an advertising executive in New York, NY; Greenville, SC and Nashville, TN. David founded and was the president of Champion Advertising for 15 years. In his lifetime, he served as President of the Greenville Advertising Federation and the Fredericksburg HOA. After retiring from advertising, he had a brief career in real estate and had an enjoyable stint working at the Maryland Farms YMCA. David enjoyed playing golf, bocce, tennis, and poker. He enjoyed participating in fantasy football leagues and watching sports – especially his Florida Gators. David was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and participated with the Knights of Columbus, Men’s Club, Bocce Club and Eucharistic Adoration ministry. To know David was to love David he was described by those who knew him as outgoing, talkative, funny, family loving, church loving and a loyal Gator fan.
David is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 58 years, Esther; children, David Champion, Jr, Lori (Mark) Howard, and Chris (Mary Clare) Champion; daughter-in-law, Patty Champion; grandchildren, Emily (Dylan) Piette, Laura (Fiancé Michael Trimboli) Champion, Phillip Champion, Emma Howard, Nicholas Howard, Leland Champion, John Champion; great-grandchild, Harper Piette; half-sister, Cathy Champion Conn.
David's family will be receiving friends on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9100 Crockett Road, Brentwood, TN 37027. Following will be a Funeral Mass starting at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #15234 of Holy Family Catholic Church
