Glenn W. Martin

Grammy-nominated songwriter Glenn W. Martin died Sunday, May 12, 2019. The composer of Charley Pride hits “Is Anybody Going To San Antone” and “I’m Just Me,” along with Merle Haggard classics “It’s Not Love But It’s Not Bad” and “If We’re Not Back In Love By Monday,” was 86 years old. Born in Cumming, Georgia June 30, 1932 and raised in Atlanta he joined the Air Force after high school serving in Germany during the Korean War. He is predeceased by his parents, Arp Jewel and Missy Irene (Chadwick) Martin and by his sister, Mary Kathleen Augustine. He is survived by his wife, Teresa “T” (Mitchell) Martin; his children, Tony J. Martin, Troy G. Martin, K. Trent Martin, J. Trace Martin, Todd C. Martin, Tiffany K. Earl, Tim C. Martin, Tiffany M. Tournaud; his sister Eleanor Marguerite Brown; 34 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. After his military service Glenn worked for Bell South before opening his own furniture and music stores. It was during the weekly jamboree shows at his store that he met the singers, songwriters and musicians who encouraged him to come to Nashville. Glenn was one of the original members of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) which was first established to get writer credits on recordings, and continues to lobby for songwriters’ interests in Washington DC today.
