Jim was educated in the Fort Smith public school system and graduated from Fort Smith High in 1953. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1958. He served in the Air National Guard and US Air Force from 1953 to 1961.
His business career was spent in department store operations, primarily with Federated Department Stores including Foley’s Sanger-Harris, and Rich’s. Jim was a member of the Episcopal Church. Throughout his life his church work and duties were very important to him. He served on several vestries throughout his life and in his latter years was proud to have the opportunity to work with the Room in the Inn .
Jim enjoyed three primary hobbies: football, his two dogs, and working in his yard. He was always proud to be an Arkansas Razorback. He and Lynne had two little dogs, Pete and Sammie, that kept him on the move. He loved taking them on their daily walks and they enjoyed every minute with him. Sadly, he lost Pete only six weeks before his own death and he will be deeply missed by Sammie and his family.
Preceded in death by daughter, Melissa K. Gibson; father James R. Gibson; mother, Lucy Alvy Gibson; and brother, Danny Lee Gibson.
Survived by wife, Lynne Gregory Gibson and daughter, Karen L. Marinov.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from four o’ clock in the evening until six on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Brentwood Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at eleven o’ clock in the morning on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1420 Wilson Pike, Brentwood, TN 37027 with Visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
