Lois Elaine Greenfield Weldon, passed away on September 29, 2021, at the age of 89, in Brentwood, Tennessee. She was born on November 20, 1931, in Williams, Iowa, to parents Edwin and Della Greenfield. Lois spent her childhood in Iowa, graduating from Webster City High School in 1949.
In 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, James Scott Weldon. They both attended Iowa State University, where she studied for a degree in Home Economics. Early in their marriage, they made lifelong happy memories living in both Germany and France when Jim was serving in the United States Air Force. After his military service, his career required multiple moves throughout the Midwest and across the country. Eventually, they would live for over 30 years in Omaha, Nebraska, before moving to Franklin, Tennessee, in 2000.
Lois was an active volunteer member of every community in which she lived. In Omaha, she served on the boards of the Omaha Community Playhouse, the Children’s Hospital, the Omaha Symphony Association and Assistance League of Omaha. Additionally, she was on the boards of the National Symphony Orchestra League and National Assistance League.
Her last professional work was with the Safety and Health Council of Greater Omaha. Her work there had long reaching impact, in Nebraska, and in her family. More than one grandchild remembers many conversations about the importance of wearing seatbelts.
In Tennessee she continued to be an enthusiastic volunteer in Assistance League, playing a role in starting the first chapter in Tennessee by serving as a charter member of Assistance League of Nashville. She was also an active member of P.E.O. in both Omaha and Franklin.
Throughout their 62 years of marriage, she and Jim enjoyed travel, were both active in their church, loved to entertain, spend time with family and friends, and especially loved any opportunity to play bridge in many different bridge groups.
Lois was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She influenced the lives of many people and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Duane, Keith, and Morris Greenfield; sisters Pamela Nelson and Ardys Johnson; and husband James Scott Weldon.
She is survived by three daughters, Susan Rumble (Bob) of Roswell, GA; Elaine O’Brien (Jeff) of Brentwood, TN; and Anne Schafer of Black Hawk, CO; six grandchildren, James Rumble, Lindsey, Laura, and Annie O’Brien, Andrew (Claire) Schafer and Rebecca (Justin) Burgess; three great-grandchildren; her sister Maureen “Kay” (James) Greenfield Knott, brother Roxy (Deb) Greenfield ; sister-in-law Beth Neff; and their families.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, 101 Legends Club Lane, Franklin, TN 37069, (615) 794-5114. Family and friends are invited to livestream the memorial service at https://vimeo.com/event/946129.
