Robert (Bob) Chasteen, 79, of Brentwood, Tennessee, passed away on February 4, 2025. He was born on January 19, 1946, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Garland and Dorothy Chasteen. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose larger-than-life personality and sense of humor touched everyone he met.
Bob was raised in Bartlesville and attended Oklahoma State University from 1964 to 1966 before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps on February 14, 1966. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on January 14, 1969. Bob then returned to college on the GI Bill, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in accounting. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Jody, whom he married on August 22, 1970, in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Bob’s professional career spanned several decades, beginning with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from 1974 to 1979. He then worked at Hilti Inc. from 1979 to 1988, Asea Brown Boveri (ASEA) from 1988 to 1989, Square D from 1989 to 1998, and Danaher Corp. from 1998 to 2008. Bob was known for his sharp intellect, dedication, and strong work ethic, earning respect and admiration from his colleagues and friends throughout his career.
Outside of work, Bob was a man of many talents and passions. He was a proud member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycling, and camping, often traveling in his RV. Bob was also an avid tinkerer, always finding ways to fix or improve things. His ingenuity and thrifty nature were matched only by his ornery sense of humor and adventurous spirit.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jody Chasteen of Brentwood, TN; his son, Brian Chasteen of Dallas, TX; his daughter, Leigh Ann Young and husband J.D. of Brentwood, TN; his grandchildren, Audrey Chasteen of Norman, OK, and Evan, Grady, and Layla Young of Brentwood, TN; his sister, Margaret Weston and husband Bill of Guthrie, OK; and his sister-in-law, Launa Ashby of Edmond, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Garland, and his sister, Mary Harter.
A man of strong character, Bob was smart, stubborn, loving, and devoted to his family and friends. He was a jokester who could always make people laugh, and his adventurous nature led him on many unforgettable journeys. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 2:30 p.m. at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 9010 Church Street East, Brentwood, TN 37027
