Sherry Kaye Vaughn

Sherry Wallace Vaughn, age 81, of Brentwood, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, surrounded spiritually by her family. She was born on April 11, 1944, in Santa Barbara, California, while her father was stationed there during World War II. After his deployment to the Pacific, her mother returned with infant Sherry to West Tennessee.

Sherry grew up in a small farming community and excelled academically from an early age. She graduated valedictorian of her high school before earning a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Union University, graduating with highest honors. She later completed her master’s degree in Music Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

In 1971, Sherry married Larry I. Vaughn. They shared a love of music, the arts, and deeply held values. They were married for 53 years and raised two sons together. Sherry taught music in public schools before dedicating herself to raising their family. She was a talented pianist, lifelong musician, avid reader, and active member of Brentwood United Methodist Church. Sherry was also a dedicated member of PEO, supporting educational opportunities for women and serving in leadership roles in several chapters.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; her sons, Wallace Hunter Vaughn and daughter-in-law Nancy Washington Vaughn of Huntsville, AL, and Jason Reece Vaughn and daughter-in-law Kriste Kidd Vaughn of Myersville, MD; her grandchildren Kayla, Austin, and Mary; and her sister, Dianne Wallace Short. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cathy Wallace Peters.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 19th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 309 Franklin Rd, Brentwood, TN 37027, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
