SNOW, Arthur LeRoy, Sr., 85, of Brooksville, Florida, both a loving and much loved husband, father and grandfather, went home to glory on Sunday, September 7, 2003. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was devoted to God, his family, and his country. Arthur LeRoy (Roy) Snow was born on Chinsegut Hill in Hernando County, on April 13, 1918, to Ernest Winfield Snow and Cora Mein McKeown. Roy was one of eighteen children born into the pioneer Snow family. He married Anna Marie Carrick of Sparta, Tennessee, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 14, 2003. Roy served with distinction in the U.S. Army during both World War II and the Korean War. As a highly decorated officer, he was awarded the Silver Star and three Bronze Stars for valor, and five Purple Hearts for wounds suffered in combat. During World War II, he took part in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy in June of 1944. As a lieutenant with the 30th Infantry Division, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and in the siege of Mortain. Later, he led some of the first American troops into battle in the Korean War. After his military service, Roy returned to his beloved Hernando County where he continued a legacy of public service. He served as a Hernando County Commissioner from 1953 through 1966. He and his wife, Marie, founded Snow's Insurance Agency, now Snow & Bell Insurance Agency. His proudest service, as a man of great faith, was as a former elder at the Brooksville Church of Christ. His family's pride in his acts of heroism, patriotism, and public service pale in comparison to a lifelong example of quiet acts of love, kindness, generosity and faith. He is survived by his wife, Marie; his three children, Arthur LeRoy Snow, Jr., Robert Bruce Snow, and Sharon Snow Bell; four grandchildren, Brook Allison Bell, Robert Bruce Snow II, Brittany Ann Bell, and Blake Ederington Bell; a sister, Joyce Snow Agliano; and an entire community of family and friends. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, September 11, 2003, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial funeral service will be held at the Brooksville Church of Christ, 604 W. Ft. Dade Ave., Brooksville, Florida, at 11:00 a.m. on September 12, 2003. Interment will follow at the Lake Lindsey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice.
