Bernard “Bernie” Rogers passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Tampa General Hospital, Brooksville, Florida. He was being evaluated to be placed on the liver transplant list, however, time was against him, and he succumbed to his illness.
Bernie was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 5, 1966, to Patricia Ann and Bernard Rex Rogers. The family moved to Florida in 1976. He was a member of the class of 1984 at Springstead High School. He worked for Publix Supermarkets for 20 years total, which is where he met his wife, Cindy, in 2005. Bernie loved her with a depth that surprised even him. He had thought he would never find someone to, in his own words, "put up with him". They were married in 2006 and had almost 20 years of marriage together. They have two boys, ages 19 and 17. His boys were his pride and joy, and he loved them deeply and without reservation, even when they butted heads.
Baptized as a youth, Bernie re-discovered his faith when he began attending Hillside Church Brooksville. He truly believed that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and has the power to change lives, as it did his. He loved the family he found at Hillside and sincerely enjoyed the time he spent with them. Bernie was a musician at heart. He was self-taught, with his primary instrument being bass guitar. When he was younger, Bernie was a member of several local bands. More recently, he found much joy in being part of the worship team at Hillside Church. Whether singing, playing drums, or bass, he considered it a privilege to worship God through music with them.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Cindy, and his sons, Joey and Ian. He also leaves behind sisters, Michelle Williams and Rosalie Henry, and several nieces and nephews. Bernard is preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and Bernard Rogers, his brother, Rex Rogers and his sister, Rosemary Dunn.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 6:00pm at Hillside Church Brooksville, 27440 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34602.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to help with funeral costs and medical bills. Donations can be mailed in care of Hillside Church or sent electronically via: h ttps://gofund.me/0ce707bbf
