Charles was born in Twist, Arkansas on December 12, 1929 to Charles Beckett and Rosie Williams (Mother Rosie). He grew up surrounded by his extended family in Jackson, Tennessee.
As a young man looking for employment he moved to Michigan in approximately 1950 and was living there when he entered the Army in 1952. He served in the Army faithfully until 1954, and greatly enjoyed serving the majority of that time in Germany discharging with a rank of Corporal.
After being discharged from the Army Charles went to work for General Motors in their Experimental Engineering division as the Parts Department Manager. He retired in 1987 with 31 years of service.
During his early retirement Charles worked for approximately 9 years transporting substance abuse clients to and from the Insight Recovery Center. He received many accolades for his unofficial counseling of these clients often ensuring that they followed through with self-admission and treatment.
In 1974 Charles first met his future wife, Shirley, while working at General Motors. They were dear friends for many years and were married on March 6th, 1987. This began their "Happily Ever After" story.
After 10 years together in Michigan, Shirley also retired and they moved to Florida in January, 1997. They joined the Brooksville Wesleyan Church where Charles began ushering shortly thereafter. Both the Wesleyan church and the Village have been an important and well loved part of their lives ever since.
Charles dearly loving his family and his church family. He also had a passion for playing golf, working crossword puzzles and loving on his dogs. He was well known for surreptitiously slipping them food from the table!
Charles slipped quietly away from this life and into the arms of Jesus while at home in Brooksville at approximately 9:15 pm on Sunday, October 2, 2016.
Charles was survived by his loving wife, Shirley Beckett, his children Charlene Brewer, Paulette Henderson, Charles Beckett III, and Shawn Beckett (Michigan). Also his dearly loved step-children Debbie Tarwater (Texas), Cheryl Allen-Webb (Florida) and Charlotte Wiley (Michigan).
Charles' many grandchildren included Juan, Milton, Jaamy, Talia, Ricky, Charles IV, Shavon, Tiffany, Michael, Kianna and Shawn (Michigan). Jason Neville, Tuesday Krakovsky, and Alla Tarwater (Texas). Yulia Fearing (Oklahoma). Freddie Torrey and Dawnie Nyx (Florida). Plus 41 great grandchildren.
Predeceasing Charles was his father Charles Beckett, his mother Rosie Williams, children Phillip and Darryl, step-child Laurie and grandchildren Franklin, Christian, DaJuan and Ashanti. As well as his beloved dogs Cubby and Fritz and grand dogs Lil and Angel.
Charles lived a happy life surrounded by many that loved him dearly and will miss him greatly.
