Dean Scott McClung Sr.

Dean was a graduate of Hernando High School class of 1977, where he proudly served as head drum major. He also was a member of Hernando High “High-Q Club.” A few years later, he joined the United States Army and served in the infantry.

After his military service, Dean worked for many years as a surveyor, a career that reflected his patience, precision, and strong work ethic. Later, as a truck driver, he spent countless hours on the road, often with his daughter Caitlin riding alongside him, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Dean was a devoted father to his three children, Caitlin, Garrett, and Cassidy McClung, who were the greatest pride of his life. He shared a special bond with each of them and was known for the affectionate nicknames he gave them: Katie-bear, Pookie-bear, and Cassi-bear.

Dean was a proud veteran and an accomplished bowler, a pursuit he loved and excelled at for many years. At home, he was known for his quick wit, playful sense of humor, and ability to make people laugh without even trying. His creativity and imagination came to life through the bedtime stories he made up for his children, including the beloved tales of Hookie and Dookie Bears, which brought endless joy and laughter.

Dean will be remembered as a loving father, a smart, hardworking man, and a steady, caring presence in the lives of those who knew him. His legacy lives on through his children and the many memories they carry with them.

He is preceded in passing by his parents, Virginia Gracie Garnett and Frank Andrew McClung; and his sister, Heather High.

Dean is survived by his children, Dean Scott McClung Jr. (currently Scott DeLoera), Chancey Manwiller, Caitlin Gracie McClung, Garrett Grant McClung, and Cassidy Erin McClung; and his siblings, Frank McClung Jr., Cathy Weiss, Glenn McClung, and Virginia "Ginny" Solomon.

A committal service with military honors will be held 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513).
