George proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, 5th Special Forces (Green Beret). His military service was a significant part of his life, instilling values of dedication and perseverance that he carried throughout his years.
In 1984, George founded Bass Drywall, a business that became a cornerstone of his life. His commitment to quality work and his strong work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of clients and colleagues alike.
An avid fisherman, George found joy in spending time outdoors, casting his line, and sharing stories with family and friends. His passion for fishing was matched only by his love for his family, who will forever cherish the memories made with him on and off the water. He also loved traveling the country in his RV with his grandchildren, creating treasured memories along the way.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Debra (Taylor) Mitko; his son, Steven Mitko and wife, Tanya; his daughter, Sarah George and husband, Brinton; and his cherished grandchildren, Bryan Mitko (Anna Billman), Justin Mitko (Cassidy Schulz), Dillon Mitko (Shyann Jackson), Savannah George, and Addison George. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Mitko (Evelyn); sisters, Gayle Booher (Larry), Joyce Mullins, and Debi Lonick (Randy); along with many nieces and nephews.
George is preceded in death by his mother, Pearle Mitko; his father, George Mitko; and his brothers, David Mullins, Charles Mullins, and Ronald Mitko.
A celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida in honor of George.
