

James W. Best, born on September 14, 1962, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on December 21, 2025, in Brooksville, Florida. He was known for his strong faith, steady character, and the way he treated everyone he met with respect and warmth.
Jim is survived by his significant other, Chelsea Clark; his daughter, Jessica Best Mohney of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; he was the beloved son of his late mother, Melanie Dimmitt of Brooksville, Florida, and the son of James W. Barclay of North Olmsted, Ohio; he was the nephew of William and Christina Adams of Shippenville, Pennsylvania; and the cousin of John L. Adams of Meadville, Pennsylvania, and Charlene Sienicki of Shippenville, Pennsylvania.
Jim worked as the manager at Frontier Auto Sales, where he was admired for his dedication, honesty, and willingness to go the extra mile. Beyond his formal role, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He also assisted next door at Frontier Campground, becoming a familiar and trusted presence to coworkers, campers, and visitors alike.
Animals were a major part of Jim's life, always holding a special place in his heart. He truly treated his animals as if they were his children. He shared a deep bond with his beloved dogs, Lacy and Puppy, his cherished cat, and Bigfoot, his rabbit. His compassion for animals reflected the gentle and loving nature that defined him.
Cooking and baking were also important parts of Jim's life. He found joy in preparing meals for himself and others, often expressing his care and creativity through food. Sharing what he made was just another way Jim showed love to those around him.
Jim had a rare gift for making people feel welcome. He was truly loved by all who met him, leaving lasting impressions through simple conversations, thoughtful actions, and a sincere smile. His life was a testament to Christian values of love and humility.
A memorial service honoring James W. Best will be held on January 17th at 3:00 PM at Merritt Funeral Home, located at 2 S. Lemon St., Brooksville, FL 34601. The service is open to everyone who wishes to attend and celebrate his life.
The remains of James W. Best (Jim) will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, at a later date. Once a date is set, this obituary will be updated so that anyone who would like to attend may do so.
James W. Best (Jim) will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
