With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Jerome William Thomas Jr. (Bill), a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, lifelong farmer, and loyal friend, who left us on March 18, 2026, at the age of 73.
Bill was the cherished husband of Della, with whom he shared 36 years of enduring love, partnership, and dedication. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and family—a legacy that will last for generations.
He was a dedicated and loving father to Leslie, Amanda, Suzanne, Tammy, Carrie, and Scott, always offering steady guidance, quiet strength, and a warm, reassuring presence. As a grandfather, he found his greatest joy in the laughter and milestones of his grandchildren, who will forever carry his stories, values, and gentle wisdom in their hearts.
A lifelong farmer, Bill, lived close to the land he loved so dearly. Through early mornings, long days, and changing seasons, he demonstrated resilience, humility, and an unbreakable work ethic. Farming was not just his livelihood; it was his calling, and through it, he taught those around him the importance of patience, stewardship, and gratitude.
To his friends and neighbors, he was a dependable presence and a kind man always willing to lend a helping hand, offer a thoughtful word, or share a laugh. His friendships were lasting, genuine, and deeply treasured.
Though his passing leaves a profound void, his life remains a testament to love, dedication, and quiet strength. He will be remembered for the way he showed up—for his family, his land, and his community—day after day, year after year.
He is survived by his wife, Della Thomas; his daughters, Leslie Willis (Shawn), Amanda Thomas (Josh), Suzanne Hood (Jason), Tammy Freeman, and Carrie Freeman; and his son, Scott Freeman (Cheryl). He also leaves behind 10 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Sam Thomas (Therese) and sisters, Elsie Goforth, Exer Knighton, and Debbie Akers.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jerome Thomas Sr.; his mother, Ellen Rogers; and his brothers, Donald and Carnes Thomas. He is also preceded by his sisters, Liz Beville, Mary Thomas, and Jane Ashley.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, where family and friends will gather to honor the man who meant so much to so many. A Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00pm at Merritt Funeral Home (2 South Lemon Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601), where the Celebration of Life begins at 2:00pm. A Graveside Service will follow at 3:00pm at Lake Lindsey Cemetery (22371 Lake Lindsey Rd, Brooksville, FL 34601).
Forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
Hugs and Kisses!!
